Adventure in Namibia

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are Namibia’s major adventure playground activities be it involving sand, water and air. The area around these two major towns offers an assortment of activities for young and old alike – a key activity enjoyed by all is quad biking through the dunes; you can partake in a fast adrenalin tour or a slower, more scenic tour depending on your personal tastes. Also on the sand, sand boarding and dune boarding are equally popular dune activities, once again enjoyed by all age groups.

Moving off land to the Atlantic Ocean, the main activities on offer here are windsurfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding and parasailing as the wind factor on the coast of Walvis Bay Lagoon is perfect and wind speeds can reach up to 50 knots.

For those who enjoy the thrill of fishing, an excellent choice is shark fishing - guaranteed to provide an adrenaline rush – for the record the shark survives and is returned to the water after pictures are taken.

If you want a view with a difference, from air to earth – you can enjoy spectacular views of this strikingly beautiful coastline as you skydive through the crisp, clean air. Alternatively, for those who prefer a longer more leisurely option to take in this amazing landscape, take a scenic flight or a hot-air balloon trip over this stunning scenery with only the occasional sound of the burner breaking the silence.

For those who prefer to stay slightly closer to the ground, paragliding is an excellent option. Namibia’s open barren fields and desert landscape, and its scattered, rocky mountains, ensure extreme flying conditions. Although it can be mild along the coastal dunes, perfect for playing around and building your confidence, the interior guarantees off-the-scale thermals and excellent cross-country possibilities. The average speed for a windy day is about 25 knots.

Namibia is a destination that can be as active and as relaxing as you please; the choice is entirely up to you.
