The Indian Ocean destination of Mauritius is planning to become the world's first duty-free islands in the next 4 years. This will mean that tourists are set to make huge savings when they purchase items on the islands.
Mauritius had already announced that it was abolishing an 80-percent tax on 1,850 different types of goods, including fabrics, clothing, electronics and jewellery
As well as the removal of taxes, the plans also include incentives for local and international investors to build large retail centres on the islands.
Vianna Murday of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority in the United Kingdom said that " Tax-free shopping will ensure that Mauritius furthers its reputation as a destination for inexpensive luxury items. Mauritius' huge range of retail opportunities is another example of how the location has a host of amenities that go beyond the beach."
