The U.S. Travel and Leisure magazine has announced its latest readers poll in which Sydney has been voted the world’s best city. It is the eighth time in as many years that the city has topped the list. With its iconic opera house and harbour bridge, stunning beaches and excellent climate it remains one of the top holiday destinations.
Other cities ranked highly were Bangkok, Rome, Florence, Chiang Mai, New York, Istanbul, Cape Town, Oaxaca and San Francisco.
The magazines readers also voted the island of Bali the world’s best island destination and the Four Seasons Resort, located on the island, the world’s best hotel.
Other awards went to Crystal Cruises for best large-ship cruise line and Singapore Airlines the world’s best international airline.
Bali again won the award for the world's best island, with the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan being voted by readers as the world's best hotel.
The magazine's editor-in-chief, Nancy Novogrod, said that independent hotels now held more appeal than larger ones, and interest in off-the-beaten-track locations continued to grow.
